If you worry about discolouration, you can forget this.  It is also recommended that you start disinfecting the stethoscope from the earpiece. Then you can wipe it down to the diaphragm.

In addition, we advise that you remove all detachable parts of your stethoscope from time to time. Cleaning only the chest piece and the bell is not enough.
