If you can’t hear anything from your stethoscope, check the following to know the problem.
- Check if there are obstructions: If you normally carry your stethoscope in your pocket and you don’t clean it properly, it is possible that dirt could be obstructing the sound. Also, ensure that you carry out routine care for your stethoscope. Moreover, it will prevent obstruction from happening.
- Check the stethoscope seal: The stethoscope needs to have an airtight seal at all times. So if there are loose parts or loose seals, it can prevent an airtight seal.
- Check the index bell: When using a double-sided stethoscope you need to open the diaphragm by rotating your chest piece. If you leave the diaphragm open the bell will be closed. This will prevent the sound from coming in through the stethoscope bell.
