Littmann Classic iii: FAQ

What is the correct terminology for parts of the Littmann Classic iii?

There are different parts of a stethoscope. We’d break it down below.

1. Headset: The headset of the Littmann Classic iii has as the metal part of the stethoscope where the tubing fits. The headset also has ear tips tension springs and ear tubes.
2. Chest piece: You can place this part where you want to hear any sound.
3. Ear tips: This is the part of the stethoscope that fits directly into your ears. The Classic iii stethoscope offers both durability and comfort.
4. Ear tube: This is the part that connects with the ear tips.
5. Tunable diaphragm: The stethoscope has a turnable diaphragm that consists of a bell and a diaphragm.
6. Tubing: The tubing of the Littmann Classic iii is not made of natural rubber latex.

How do I measure the tubing length?

You can measure your tubing length from the top of the ear tips to the end side of the chest piece.

Is the Littmann Classic iii made of latex?

No. The stethoscope does not contain natural rubber latex. Also, it doesn’t contain dry natural rubber in the product or even the packaging

Why would I want a tunable diaphragm on a regular two-sided stethoscope?

It is better to buy a stethoscope with a tunable diagram. It offers you both versatility and convenience.  Furthermore, the tunable diaphragm offers the choice of using it as a two-sided stethoscope. You can also use the diaphragm side to listen to both high and low-frequency sounds.

I can’t hear anything from my stethoscope. What may be wrong with it?

If you can’t hear anything from your stethoscope, check the following to know the problem.

• Check if there are obstructions: If you normally carry your stethoscope in your pocket and you don’t clean it properly, it is possible that dirt could be obstructing the sound. Also, ensure that you carry out routine care for your stethoscope. Moreover, it will prevent obstruction from happening.
• Check the stethoscope seal: The stethoscope needs to have an airtight seal at all times. So if there are loose parts or loose seals, it can prevent an airtight seal.
• Check the index bell: When using a double-sided stethoscope you need to open the diaphragm by rotating your chest piece. If you leave the diaphragm open the bell will be closed. This will prevent the sound from coming in through the stethoscope bell.
