Littmann Stethoscope Cardiology IV Black / Black Finish Review
A typical stethoscope picks up on bodily sounds like the heartbeat, the pulse in an extremity, the sound of the bowels, or fluid in the lungs. A cardiology stethoscope, however, enables users to hear and recognize particular heart sounds, such as clicks, murmurs, and rubs. Cardiology stethoscopes are widely available on the market, however, let’s be real. Not every one of them offers the users standout characteristics. However, Littmann stethoscopes are unquestionably among the best available. I paid £188 for my Littmann Cardiology IV in Black for a traditional and decent appearance.
I would like to explain in detail all the steps of my journey with Littmann. First, let’s get into the unboxing of the stethoscope. The design of the box is a bit similar to the other Littmann stethoscopes, it has a picture of the chest piece on the front.
Now I am going to remove the lid of the box and describe the interior of the box. The inside is lined with a black protective form in which the stethoscope is placed. In addition to the stethoscope, a user manual, some ear tips, and a non-chill rubber rim are also included.

I have never used a cardiology stethoscope before so the user manual is of great importance to me. It has detailed instructions on all the features of the Littmann cardiology IV stethoscope and how to use them. Moreover, the instructions are mentioned in multiple languages so if anyone out there can’t read English and prefers any other language then let me tell you. Littmann is there for you every step of the way!
I love the look of this stethoscope. I ordered a Black stethoscope along with a Black finish for the chest piece. As I hold the stethoscope in my hands, I admire the feel of the tubing. It’s flexible and latex-free as well.
Next, the chest piece is turn-able like most of the Littmann stethoscopes.
One side of the chest piece consists of a larger diaphragm specifically for adult patients and the opposite side has a smaller one for pediatric patients. So, in short, this single stethoscope can be used for both kinds of patients!
Now, let’s test the design of the headset of the stethoscope. The binaurals have an ergonomic style which allows me to use the stethoscope for longer periods as well without causing harm to my ears.
The most important part of a stethoscope is the sound transmission. I used the stethoscope on my husband and auscultated different regions. I could hear his breath sounds clear. The same goes for the lung and heartbeat sounds.
After testing the stethoscope and checking out every feature in detail, I think it’s safe to say that this stethoscope is one of the best ones out there and it made my work life a whole lot easier.

Following are some of the drawbacks of the Welch Allyn stethoscope that illustrate why I favor the Littmann model when comparing the two.
Chrome-plated brass is used for the chest portion of the Welch Allyn stethoscope, which makes it too hefty. Even when hanging around my neck, it is incredibly unpleasant for me. I was forced to keep the stethoscope in a case or my work bag instead.
Furthermore, the tubing material is not latex-free rubber, therefore I had to suffer as a result of it.
The Welch Allyn stethoscope also has the thickest chest piece I have ever used. The chest piece is large and heavy, and it does not fit well. Because the diaphragm and bell heads detach so quickly, they must be tightened frequently during a shift.
I can hear the heartbeat, but the sound of my lungs is muted. I know it’s not the patient because I tried it on myself and couldn’t hear any breath sounds whereas my Littmann can audibly distinguish between the two.
