Littmann Stethoscope Cardiology IV Raspberry / Rainbow / Smoke Stem Review
For individuals who want consistently excellent acoustic performance, particularly in critical care and other demanding conditions, the Littmann Cardiology Stethoscope is made. They are ideal for doing in-depth auscultations and assessments on both adult and pediatric patients since they are designed to aid us in listening to difficult-to-hear sounds. When I discovered the stethoscope’s aforementioned features, I immediately concluded that the Littmann Cardiology IV is the ideal stethoscope for me. Therefore, I didn’t waste any time and bought the stethoscope in a wonderful Raspberry tint that fits my personality.
The stethoscope arrived in a box along with an instruction manual, some extra ear tips, and a non-chill rubber rim.

Let’s talk about the features of the stethoscope in further detail. The Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscope offers a 40% larger chest piece and 60% deeper bell than prior stethoscope models of 3M Littman. The main material that is used in this instrument is stainless steel. Also, I found that there is no latex in its materials, which makes it an environmentally friendly product.
It has a level 9 acoustic performance, as stated on the package. The stethoscope’s single-piece tunable diaphragm allows for simple frequency adjustment by varying the pressure applied to the chest piece. The pediatric side of the stethoscope can be converted into an open bell which is used to hear low-frequency sounds. It is very easy to replace the small diaphragm with the rubber rim without causing any sort of harm to the chest piece of the stethoscope.
To ensure that the rubbing noise produced by multiple tubes in more typical instruments is minimized, the design uses dual-lumen tubing.
This stethoscope has exceptionally thick tubing. According to legend, the thicker the tubing of the stethoscope, the easier sound goes through, explaining the outstanding acoustics of this stethoscope.
Now, let me just put this on and see how it works. So I’ll start listening in the aortic region. I can easily hear the body sounds and good heartbeats as well. I can also clearly hear the other regions such as the tricuspid valve, the mitral valve, and the pulmonary area.
Now, let’s listen to breathing sounds now, also sounds clear hence it is safe to say that the chest is clear. As far as the quality, design, and acoustics of the stethoscope are concerned, I am more than satisfied with all of these. One slight drawback is however the price. It is too expensive.

Competition with others:
Before switching to the Littmann Cardiology IV, I tried the Prestige stethoscope with great hopes as well. However, I was disappointed with multiple things in that stethoscope.
So, first of all, the acoustics of the Prestige stethoscope are below average, I could hear the outside noises while using the stethoscope. Second of all, I could hear my children’s heartbeats and breathe easily with it but it doesn’t pick up adults well. Additionally, I couldn’t hear the lung sounds as well which is another major disadvantage.
The acoustics are the most important factor when it comes to spending a lot of money on a stethoscope but this stethoscope failed to achieve that task which makes me think that it was a waste of money. The earpieces don’t fit and have to be adjusted for every single use. They also broke within a week
Now, let’s talk about the tubing of the stethoscope. The material wasn’t suitable for me and I didn’t like the feel of it as well whenever I hung it around my neck.
Furthermore, the headset has a weird, uncomfortable design. Whenever I inserted the binaurals to auscultate a patient, my ears started hurting after every shift. I tried changing the ear tips as well, but even then, never got the desired comfort. The ear tips also didn’t provide a good, tight seal.
Hence, because of the above-mentioned reasons, I highly recommend using the Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscope.
